From the Principal's Desk

Hello Fabulous Theuerkauf Families!

We kicked off this week with Read Across America Day on Monday. “Batman” a.k.a our School Resource Officer, Officer T-Low, joined me in leading an assembly for our TK-2nd graders. We read Green Eggs and Ham (by Dr. Seuss) and he even tried some green eggs. Students were rolled over laughing and loved having Batman join us. We love our partnership with the Mountain View Police Department!

As we enter into our last Trimester for the year, guess who has shown tremendous growth? That's right, Theuerkauf Cheetahs are giving a run to their peers across town! Our school has shown tremendous growth from Trimester 1 to Trimester 2 on i-Ready Benchmark Assessments.

Reading - Tied for some of the highest growth percentages in the district with 48% of all students showing growth from Trimester 1 to Trimester 2

Math - Some of the highest growth in the district with 47% of all students demonstrating growth from Trimester 1 to Trimester 2.

We have not only changed the way we teach but our teachers really delve deeper into targeted student support. Teachers meet as grade level teams and look at each students’ progress on each of the standards that have been taught. Then, they develop a plan of action to review, refresh, and challenge students based on data. Delving deeper into individual student strengths and focuses has really helped us hone in on student needs and design supports accordingly.

As we continue our schoolwide Science and Technology integration focus, we have a FUN family (parents and students) night planned for March 12th from 4:30 - 6:30 pm in the MUR. We will introduce to students and families how 3D printers work, how to build a 3D object from 2D, have an introduction to Tynker Computer Aided Design (CAD), and much more. All simplified for elementary students and families. Come join us with your children for a fun filled evening of 3D printing! (Snacks, food items will be provided). Look at some 3D printing samples below that we will build together.

Reading is a BIG focus at our school. This past week we not only had our Cool Cat Awards Assembly, we also recognized 67 students in Grades 1st - 5th for surpassing their reading goal on their Accelerated Reading (AR). Such incredible growth!! Good job, kiddos! Congratulations to all students who made it to the Donut and Juice Party.

Lets keep this momentum going. Upward and Beyond!

Sincerely,

Ms. Swati Dagar

Principal - Theuerkauf Elementary

We don’t want your child to fall behind in school and get discouraged.  Please ensure that your child attends school every day and arrives on time.   Here are a few practical tips to help support regular attendance:

  • Make sure your children keep a regular bedtime and establish a morning routine.

  • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.

  • Ensure your children go to school every day unless they are truly sick

  • Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor’s appointments when school is in session.

  • Talk to teachers and counselors for advice if your children feel anxious about going to school.

  • Develop back up plans for getting to school if something comes up.  Call on a family member, neighbor, or another parent to take your child to school.

MVEF News

MVEF needs you! The Mountain View Educational Foundation is seeking new volunteers and board members to join us and support their mission to ensure that every child, at every school has access to a competitive, well rounded, inspiring education. Thanks to the work of volunteers and board members, MVEF raises over $800,000 annually to fund art, music, athletics and hands-on science across the district. The Board of Directors typically consists of 10-15 dedicated community members and district parents. Board members attend monthly board meetings, represent MVEF in their school communities, and help guide and support the vision of the organization. MVEF strives to have at least one representative from each school and people who bring a variety of professional skills, including fundraising, marketing, finance, and community engagement. Board members have the opportunity to make a difference in the experience of every child in the district, gain insight into district programming and planning, and collaborate with other parent leaders in the district.

Learn more about MVEF, and its impact on your child’s school day at mvef.org. If you are interested, please send a message to [email protected].
