Greetings Theuerkauf Families!

Thank you for taking time for Parent-teacher conferences. This is such an important step in understanding how your child is doing at school and asking questions on how we can support academics at home.

This week is College Week at Theuerkauf. Students have been playing a bingo game or engaging in grade level appropriate activities around colleges and careers. They have a couple questions that students ask their teacher each day to get to know how their teachers’ college experience was and what all is needed to prepare to go to college. On Friday, 10/19, staff is wearing College Gear and students are also encouraged to wear college clothing or college colors, if they have any, for the college they would like to attend or their family members might have attended. They say, it is never to early to start having these conversations and developing a growth mindset on what is needed to prepare to go to college. Besides, why not have fun at school and build a college going culture?!

Our school PTA is organizing FearKauf Festival on Friday, October 26th, from 3:30 - 5:30 pm. Students can wear their costumes to the festival but not at school during the day on Friday. Students may wear their costumes over their clothing during the last 15 minutes of class time on Friday, 10/26, if they are attending the Fearkauf Festival. Students are to be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the festival. We will have fun activities such as pumpkin painting, corn hole, haunted house, etc. along with food for sale. Please do join us for some school wide community fun.

Halloween is coming up soon and students who celebrate are very excited about it. Students may wear their costumes during the day, on October 31, as long as it is safe and non-distracting. Masks, gore, and sharp/dangerous props (fake weapons) are not allowed. Teachers have choice on what celebrations take place during the day. We strongly encourage students not to bring candy to school that day. If your family does not participate in the festivities, please make sure your child's teacher is made aware and we will make alternate arrangements as the classroom engages in Halloween celebrations.

Parking Lot: A gentle reminder that the back parking lot is for staff parking only. It is not a drop-off zone for students. Parents are to park in the appropriate neighborhood areas and walk their child if using the back gate. Please do not park in the parking lot designated spots or wait in the parking lot while your child is being dropped to class. Parents are asked not to take u-turn in the middle of the street. It is very unsafe, especially when students are walking or crossing the street to get on campus. Thank you for your support in making sure all our students are safe as they walk to school.

Sincerely,

Ms. Swati Dagar

Principal

Robotics and Coding Workshop is aimed at introducing basic building and coding of robots using a very hands on approach. There will be games and competitions every class to keep the students motivated. The instructors are highly experienced in teaching and mentoring teams for robotics tournaments. To register, please complete this portion and return it to the Theuerkauf school front office by October 15, 2018.  This program is free to all students in 4th & 5th grade, they will be selected by lottery. Space is limited to 30 students.

Negative lunch balances

We strongly encourage you to keep your student’s lunch account balance current. Overdrawn student meal accounts have a negative impact on the District’s budget, which in turn, reduces the educational resources available to all of our students.

We have several simple payment options for you to choose from.  No matter which payment option you choose, please know that negative balances must be paid as soon as possible.

  1. Pay online at EZSCHOOLPAY.COM: Add money to your student's account.

  2. Drop off a check at the school office:  Checks should be made payable to MVWSD Food and Nutrition. Please include your child’s name and student ID number.

After paying your outstanding balance, we encourage you to create a “safety net” for your child.  Pre-paying for your child’s meals is a simpler way of managing their account, and prevents unpaid meal charges.  Paying for meals before the meal service also helps lunch lines move more quickly, giving children more time to enjoy their meal.

If your family is experiencing a financial setback, please contact us so we can help.  We can assist you in applying for free or reduced price meal benefits. You may do this at any time during the school year, and must apply each year.  Applications are available at your child’s school office or online at EZSCHOOLPAY.COM.

Please call MVWSD Food and Nutrition Services at 650-903-6965 if you have any questions.

We still have lots of Fearkauf Fest Volunteer Opportunities, and we are especially eager for parents who can help set up and take the Theuerkauf Haunted House from blueprints to spooooky realityPlease mosey on over to our Sign Up Sheet, type in your name, and get inspired to help make this a fantastic event!

10/26 and 10/31 Costume Rules

Friendly reminder to all parents and students that the day of Fearkauf Fest on 10/26 (3:30-5:30pm event), students will only be allowed to put on a costume during the last 15 minutes of the school day (and up until 5:30 when festivities end). The rules are as follows:

    1. Costume goes on over clothing (not something to change into)

    2. no fake blood or scary outfits are allowed

    3. no masks or makeup are allowed

    4. no fake weapons are allowed

On Halloween Day, October 31st, students are allowed to wear their costumes all day long, but must also abide by the rules outlined above. Thank you for your cooperation for these festivities!
