From the Principal's Desk

Hello, Cheetah Families!

It has been a wonderful week thus far at Theuerkauf! Our Kindergarten classes took a virtual field trip to the Deer Hollow farm, our fifth graders dove deeper into their work with long division and fractions, and all of our students are working hard to improve their reading comprehension scores in various ways. On a personal note, I want to share with you that it has been SUCH a joy to spend time with students during our grade level lunch bunch sessions over the past few weeks!! Thank you for those who have helped their kids log in for a little social interaction time. Today, our first grade group enjoyed some game time together. Next week, our Kinder and TK students will get to join in the fun as well. As a reminder, if you have an idea for another engaging and/or FUN activity for kids in the online space, please share your thoughts here! Our next new social activity will be announced next week.

Also, I want to remind you that you should have by now received a email from Cathy Bauer in the MVWSD district office regarding a 4-week on-campus PE opportunity that is scheduled to begin next Wednesday, 11/18/20. There is a personalized link in the email you received that will allow you to sign up if you are interested in having your child take part in this opportunity. The window to sign up closes tomorrow.

In case you missed our last parent coffee, please click here to view the slides.

Thank you to our parents, teachers, and all stakeholders at Theuerkauf for working together to teach our children the importance of equity, excellence, perseverance, hard work, and gratitude.

Together, we make a difference!

Yours in service,

Michelle Williams

Seeking Career Speakers

Do you love your career? Are you willing to share the story of how you got to this place in your life? If so, please consider serving as a speaker in our upcoming online Zoom assembly. We would love to have as many careers and occupations represented as possible. If you would be willing to speak to a small group of students in a breakout room during this assembly, please complete this quick form and we will be in touch with the logistics. Our kids will benefit greatly from hearing your story and from learning what it is like to do what you do, and they will benefit even further from hearing this from someone from our very own community.

Veterans Day - Showing our Gratitude

Tomorrow is Veteran's Day, and this marks a very important time of reflection in our nation. As a country, there is unfortunately incredible division that exists along party lines, causing incredible pain and distancing even within the most close-knit of families. On this Veteran's Day, I hope that we can all stand united in celebrating and honoring those who have fought for our freedoms, rights, and privileges--including the privilege of civil discourse and the right to vote. I would encourage all of us to take a moment to thank someone we know in the armed services for their sacrifices and for their dedication to the people of our nation.

If you are so inclined, please also consider writing a note or letter of thanks to a veteran to drop this off at the school. There will be a box where you can drop your notes at the lunch pick-up area starting on Friday, outside of the MUR. We will forward these letters along to an organization called A Million Thanks for distribution during the winter holiday season to help lift the spirits of those who have served and who continue to serve our nation.

Technology Support:

  • If you are having problems with the chromebook you can contact: support@mvwsd.org to create a ServiceNow ticket or call the Tech Department at (650) 526-3252.

  • Is your child having trouble with sound or with their microphone?

    • This video clip may help! NEW: Adjust Microphone Input Tutorial

    • In the Zoom app, you can click on the bottom left where the microphone is and click on the arrow, choose audio settings and then check 'automatically adjust microphone volume.'

    • Another solution to try is to manually reduce the microphone volume in Chrome by clicking on the menu where the time/wifi icon is located then choosing the arrow next to the sound icon and adjust the microphone volume there.

Together We Are a Better MVWSD: November: We acknowledge our history

It's already November and the holiday season is upon us. Traditionally, elementary school students learn about a peaceful feast held in 1621 by the Pilgrims and Wampanoag Indians, who helped teach them to survive in a perilous new world. To promote both critical thinking and the disruption of falsehoods favoring a colonialist-dominant narrative, we must engage with primary sources and counternarratives to grapple with the mythologies of the first Thanksgiving. This month, the BetterTogether calendar encourages all of us to acknowledge our shared history and its truths, starting with the contributions of those Indigenous to North America. To see more, click on the attached flyer (Spanish included) or visit https://www.mvwsd.org/bettertogetherMVWSD.
