From the Principal's Desk

Hello, Theuerkauf Families,

It has been a pleasure to join together with staff, students, and families alike during our United TOGETHER against Hate week activities. Thank you to everyone that attended our multicultural potluck yesterday!  We had a great turnout, celebrating diversity while enjoying delicious food and world music! We will continue this spirit of embracing our diversity and many cultures in upcoming Parent University events, principal's coffee, and more.

Parent Teacher Conferences are critical opportunities for families and teachers to discuss students’ progress toward achieving mastery of grade level standards and academic levels as well as social-emotional development. Conference week this year will be in the afternoon hours from December 5-9. Every day that week will be a minimum day: students will be released at 12:10 pm.

By November 28, all families will have received an email from your child’s teacher with a Sign-up Genius link instructing you on how to sign up for your child's conference. Please complete your sign-up on or before 11/30. If you are unable to sign up for an appointment using this method, please contact the office by 11/30, and we will be happy to assist you.

As always, thank you for your partnership. Together, we make a difference!

Yours in service,

Michelle Williams, Principal

Theuerkauf Cheetah: Logo Refresh!

There isn't a single Theuerkauf student, whether present or former, who doesn't recognize and celebrate our long cherished mascot, the Cheetah! Even so, you may have noticed that our beloved Cheetah picture itself might need a little updating and TLC, to raise the quality of the image. Over the next several weeks, you will receive some logo refresh ideas to weigh in on and provide your input on the best version of our Cheetah moving forward. The goal will be to capture a version of our Cheetah that continues to embody the Theuerkauf spirit and all that we hold dear. Please look for these ideas to come your way within the next few weeks. Go Cheetahs!!!

Health and Wellness Tip: Improving Mood

Stressful events influence our thoughts (words or images that pop into our mind), feelings (our emotions), and actions (what we do or say). For example, if your childcare falls through, then you might think, “My day is ruined;” you might feel frustrated; and you might act short-tempered with your child, partner, or colleagues. Doing enjoyable activities can prevent stressful events from ruining our day.

Watch this video to learn more about how doing fun activities can make you (or your child) feel better.

To improve your (or your child’s) mood:

  1. Track your mood throughout the day (e.g., rate how you feel each morning, afternoon, and evening from 1 = unhappy to 5 = happy).

  2. Create a list of activities that you enjoy doing (e.g., painting, exercising, talking to a friend).

  3. Plan when you can do one or more of your activities (e.g., scheduling a phone call with a friend for Saturday morning).

  4. Do your scheduled activity.

  5. Reflect on how you feel after doing your activity (e.g., compare your mood rating before and after your activity).

These tips came directly from the free, online toolkit from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
