December 17, 2025

Dear Cheetah Community,

I wish you and your family a joyful and restful winter break! I am so excited to welcome all of our Cheetahs back in the new year and look forward to a wonderful start to 2026 together.

We will kick off the year with a very special school assembly featuring Grammy- and Emmy-winning artists, Alphabet Rockers! On Friday, January 9, 2026, Stevenson and Theuerkauf students will come together for this highly engaging assembly where children will learn through singing, beatboxing, and dancing. The focus will be on celebrating belonging, inclusion, and community. The theme says it best: “Be Curious, Be You, Belong. Build a bridge to build community.” To show our spirit, on 1/9, please have your child wear tie-dye or rainbow colors!

Want to volunteer? Here is a volunteer sign up sheet!

During the break, your child will bring home a set of bookmarks they can color as a fun way to begin preparing for the assembly. Students will also be learning some of the songs during the event, and if you have a dancer or singer at home, feel free to practice the moves together before January 9! Step-by-step dance instructions in video links are included below.

This Friday, come to the Library after drop off. Enjoy breakfast and learn about skills and strategies to support your child when they are having big emotions! Mrs. Wilson, our school counselor, will also send you away with a goodie bag of tools to use over the break to help support your child! I look forward to seeing you all there and helping to prepare you to support your child through big emotions this winter break!

i-Ready reports will be available in PowerSchool on December 17.

When reviewing your child’s report, we encourage you to focus on their individual growth and progress over time. As a school, we are proud to share some exciting news about our overall growth! In reading, 16% more of our students moved from one or more grade levels below to on grade level. In math, we saw a 13% increase in students making that same important progress. In reading, we moved 4% of our students out of two or more grade levels below and in math we moved 10% of students out of two or more grade levels below! We are so proud of our students’ and teachers’ hard work and grateful for the partnership we share with our families!

Thank you for being such an important part of our school community. I look forward to continuing to learn, grow, and build community together in the new year!

In partnership,

Principal Danielle Lyons

Is your Student Too Sick for School?

As we move through the winter months, when the flu and other seasonal illnesses are common, it’s important to know when your student should stay home to rest and recover, as well as to prevent the spread of illness. Please take a moment to read the attached MVWSD’s Back to School Health Guidance flyer. It includes information on when your student should stay home, illness prevention tips and current COVID guidelines. Thank you for helping to keep our school community healthy and safe this winter!

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Parent Reports Now Available

Social-emotional learning isn’t just something students practice at school—it shows up in how they manage frustration, collaborate with others, and navigate relationships both inside and outside the classroom. Families are key partners and play an essential role in reinforcing these skills.

This year, MVWSD launched a new SEL survey in grades 3-8 that provides helpful data points for both parents and staff. Fall parent reports are now available in PowerSchool, and winter results will be coming the first week of December.

This is not an assessment, but a tool to understand how students are doing and where they may need support. Counselors will review individual student data confidentially and will contact families if they see areas of concern. At the school level, aggregated data may help guide SEL lessons or schoolwide activities.

The Parent/Guardian Report offers a table organizing students’ average rating for each of seven (7) topics from their most recent SEL Screener survey.

Students self-reported in six key areas:

• Self-efficacy

• Self-management

• Positive feelings

• Supportive relationships

• Challenging feelings

• Emotion regulation

Parents will see some sections of the report include a “Try This!” This feature lists simple strategies and conversation starters you can use at home. If you have questions about your child’s report, please reach out to your school counselor.

Next up, teachers will receive training on how to access and use their students’ SEL data.
