April 17, 2020

Greetings to our wonderful Theuerkauf Family,

We had a very successful student material distribution week. It was so nice seeing our families and some of our Theuerkauf Cheetahs these past two days as they came to get materials. Even though staff was wearing masks and gloves as we delivered materials, we all felt the love, appreciation, and warmth that our families have for us - virtual hugs, waves, smiles, cheering were abound. We even got some parent drive- by Thank You encouragement. We are truly an extended family for each other. Thank you for being so amazing! A big shout-out to all who made the student material distribution possible- right from planning, organizing, packing, to distribution. Kudos to our amazing school staff and outstanding school community! Did you see some pictures from our student distribution on our School Facebook Page? If not, we have them below for you:

Distance Learning Plan starts Monday, April 20th

This week our staff is busy planning and preparing for rolling out our Distance Learning Plan. In my last Principal Update, I mentioned in detail our roll-out for the plan. We are continuing to use Google Classroom (through Clever) as the virtual classroom for your child’s continued learning experiences. You can download the Google Classroom Mobile App via this link: Google Classroom App Download Here. All lessons, videos can be viewed on mobile devices as well.

School Dashboard

To assist families with accessing their child Google Classroom, student academics, and school announcements, we have created a School Dashboard. Click on your child’s teacher name on the Dashboard and it will take you to your child’s Google Classroom. You, then, enter the code provided by your child’s teacher to login to the secure Google classroom. Teachers will continue their student meetings, live lessons, and check-ins via Zoom. Our school district has put in security features as our students’ use Zoom district wide. The Zoom links are only provided to students/ families via the teacher's Google Classroom, which means that they are not available publicly. No uninvited guests can join the Zoom meetings as the teacher has to allow access to anyone who wants to ‘join in’. Our librarian will be doing classroom Read Alouds for TK-2 as well as Book Clubs for upper grades.

MVWSD is providing free outdoor Wifi Access

By April 20th, outdoor wifi is available for student use in the parking lots at Monta Loma, Crittenden, Graham, Landels, Mistral, and the School District Office. Families will be able to park in the lot to access wifi.

This virtual world may be becoming the new normal for us all but nothing changes the fact that #TeamTheuerkauf will do what it takes to make sure our Cheetahs continue learning, growing, and continue to be excited for life with all its ups and downs. We miss you all and can’t wait to be together again!

Much love,

Your Principal Dagar

2020 Census Paper Questionnaires are on their way to Californians!

If you’re among the 70+ million households who have already responded to the 2020 Census, thank you! If you haven’t completed it yet, paper questionnaires are in the mail headed your way. Households receiving the paper questionnaire can still respond online or by phone, or they can return it by mail in the enclosed envelope. When you respond online, use the Census ID from the letter or provide your address. To respond now, go to https://go.usa.gov/xdKjk.

Please encourage your family, friends, and neighbors to complete it too. It’s something everyone can do while practicing social distancing at home to make a difference today, tomorrow and the next 10 years.

Free, low cost internet for students

We think that it’s important that each of our students has one Internet-ready device (laptop, iPad, etc)  in their house for distance learning schoolwork. There are several ways you can access free/or low cost internet to connect students' Chromebooks. Please see the attached flyer or click on www.mvwsd.org/technology.

Middle School electives selection coming soon

It is the time of year when our incoming middle school students choose their electives for next year. As we enter the third year of the new inclusive middle school schedule, our middle schools are currently working to provide quality offerings that we hope will pique students’ interests and a great complement to our core academics.

Parents will receive an email on April 24 with course descriptions and selection directions. All 5th-7th graders will preference their course electives online through Powerschool on April 29-May 8, 2020.
