From the Principal's Desk

Hello my wonderful Theuerkauf School Family,

Can’t believe summer is almost here! As we wrap up this rather unusual school year, I want to encourage all of you to join us in celebrating our students for all their hard work, efforts, and perseverance. I read an article this week on how our children are coping during this pandemic and the range of emotions they are probably going through. Everyone is applauding other adults as we navigate this pandemic.Today let's talk about how our children are coping with this. Our little heroes have stayed indoors more than they’ve ever known in their lives. Their whole worlds have literally been turned upside down and they don’t know why. All these rules they’ve never known. Not being able to see family or give hugs. Vacations, sports and activities, play dates, and school cancelled. Adults talking about others becoming unwell, news reporting deaths and cases after cases of illness. Our little kiddos’ minds must be racing. Every day our resilient little ones carry on despite what’s going on. So here’s to our little heroes: Today, Tomorrow, Forever. Our Theuerkauf Cheetahs Rock!

Staffing Updates:

As we plan for next year, we have some staffing updates. We bid fond farewells to some of our staff members at the end of this school year as they move on to new adventures. Mrs. Yost (Stern), Ms. Brittney O’Brien, Mrs. Dolores Lopez will be joining other schools in our district. Mrs. Yost (Stern) will be the Instructional coach at Monta Loma Elementary and use her outstanding instructional knowledge to support teachers there. Ms. Brittney O’Brien will make STEAM happen at Castro Elementary and Mrs. Dolores Lopez will be sharing her instructional magic at Huff Elementary. Ms. Brooke O’Brien is leaving us and moving to a school closer to her residence to teach secondary school. We are grateful that they will continue to positively impact students within our school district as well as outside. I am excited to announce Ms. Casey Kuhlow will be our STEAM teacher and Mrs. Natalie Gallagher will be a full time Instructional Coach at our school for the upcoming year. We will also have some new staff members join our Theuerkauf School Family in the Fall. Stay tuned.

The last week of school may look a little different from the previous few weeks of Distance Learning we have had. We want to celebrate our students and our families. The upcoming instructional week has been modified to allow for end-of-year work and activities. There will be no teacher office hours during the week of June 1st. Teachers will schedule a Zoom end of year celebration between Monday through Wednesday and send communication to their class families.

Report Cards:

You must all be wondering about end of year reports cards. Due to COVID-19 school closure beginning and per the direction of the MVWSD Board of Trustees, students will not be given grades for the last trimester of the 2019-20 school year. However, report  cards will be sent home via email on June 5 with short comments from teachers and information about children’s participation in online learning.

5th Grade Virtual Promotion:

Please mark your calendars to join us in celebrating all the hard work and efforts of our outgoing 5th grade class of 2020. We will have a Virtual Promotion Viewing Party on Friday, June 5th, at  9:00 am. We will share the Zoom link for the Promotion viewing early next week. Let's all celebrate our 5th grade Cheetahs as they start their secondary school journey at the middle school. We are so excited for it!

Our school dashboard is updated by end of day today  and you can access it  here: http://theuerkauf.mvwsd.org/what_s_new/distance_learning_plan

Look forward to seeing you this afternoon for the Virtual Principal’s Coffee at 3:30 pm. (Zoom meeting link shared via email earlier this week).

The last week of school excitement may not feel the same as in person celebrations but I am grateful to have the opportunity to be able to celebrate with you all virtually. Look  forward to our fun celebrations, recognitions, and ceremonies next week.

Missing my Cheetahs a lot today! Please give them a big hug for me.

Love and light to all,

Your Principal Dagar

Child Care and Resources

SCCOE Announces New Online Portal for Essential Workers to Access Childcare

Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) in partnership with county and city leaders, community organizations and agencies throughout Santa Clara County has announced a new online portal to provide essential workers, as defined by the Santa Clara County Department of Public Health, access to childcare during the shelter-in-place order

In addition to this childcare resource, we have a list of resources for families developed by our School Community Engagement Facilitators. Sheltering in place and not being in our regular routines of work and school can be hard on our emotional and mental health, in addition to making access to meals, rent payments and other typical activities more difficult. Click here for info about help with meals, rent, legal issues, emotional support and more.

Food Benefits

Due to Coronavirus (COVID-19), children who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals at school will get extra food benefits. These food benefits are called Pandemic EBT or P-EBT benefits. P-EBT benefits help families in California buy food when schools are closed because of the coronavirus emergency.

Families will get up to $365 per eligible child on their P-EBT card to use on food and groceries. Families with children who get CalFresh, Medi-Cal or Foster Care benefits do not need to apply. Most will get their P-EBT card in the mail during the month of May. P-EBT cards will begin arriving sometime this month (May).

Families with children who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals and who do not get their P-EBT card in the mail, must apply online before June 30, 2020. The online application will launch in late May. https://www.cdss.ca.gov/home/pandemic-ebt
