From the Principal's Desk

Hello, Theuerkauf Families!

Can you believe how time is flying? Friday, November 5, 2021 will mark the end of the first trimester for our school and district. It is also a minimum day for students, so dismissal will occur at 12:10pm.  I am so proud of the hard work and dedication that our community has put into making this an excellent first trimester of the school year. Parents, students, teachers, and staff have worked together to create a learning environment of high expectations and support for all of our students. Thank you, Cheetahs, for all of your effort and partnership over these past few months.

Health reminder: Parents, please be sure to speak with someone in the office before bringing your child to school if they are experiencing symptoms on the daily OK to Reopen form. This includes fever or chills, cough, loss of taste or smell, shortness of breath/trouble breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.

School-wide events and activities this week:

Thanks so much to all who were able to join me for our October Principal's coffee last night. We discussed updates on pooled testing, tutoring, our site plan, and more. I hope you can also stop by during your child's Cool Cat Assembly time on Friday! The assemblies are typically 20-30 minutes, and even if your child is not selected for a Cool Cat award for this month's core value (responsibility), there are always lots of fun moments that you can enjoy with your child virtually.

We hope you've been enjoying the wonderful Activity-a-thon coordinated by our PTA! I must say, the students are having so much fun with this! The events have been EXTENDED through next Friday! You can learn more about this in the PTA section below.

Just a reminder that we will allow students to dress in Fall costumes this Friday. Please see school news for parameters on what students can wear.

As always, thank you for your partnership! Together, we make a difference.

Yours in service,

Michelle Williams, Principal

Reposted: Fall Costumes on 10/29

On October 29th, in celebration of many fall cultural traditions, students are welcome to wear a costume that celebrates a personal tradition or the fall season. Students must follow our school dress code, and costumes cannot display blood/gore or other implements that may scare other children. Additionally, costume masks and face paint are not permitted. We also welcome you to send in a picture or two of your child for a special virtual parade through a slideshow/video. Please email any pictures to [email protected] by 3pm on Thursday to be included in the video.

Mars Rovers in 5th Grade!

This week, our 5th grade students got to take part in an AMAZING virtual field trip with NASA! Students learned about the expeditions to Mars, and they even designed and built their own Mars helicopters together. Students used a large marshmallow to represent the fuselage and four toothpicks to represent the carbon fiber legs. Finally, they added a solar panel and two rotor blades to complete their helicopters.

Drafts available: Single Plans for Student Achievement

Each year, our schools create Single Plans for Student Achievement (SPSAs or “site plans”) that guide the work for the coming year. These plans help us prioritize programs and strategies that will best serve our students. In the fall, elected parent representatives from School Site Councils and English Language Advisory Committees work with principals and school staff members to create a draft that is reviewed and approved by the MVWSD Board of Trustees.  Parents and staff members may give feedback through Nov. 19 to their principal and elected parent representatives to SSC and ELAC. You may review the draft plans here.

Input Requested on Proposed Updates to Parent Involvement Board Policy

Our District’s board policies set broad guidelines for our actions and are based on the most recent updates to California’s Education Code. From time to time, updates are needed to reflect current terminology and best practices. We are currently in the process of updating BP6020: Parent Involvement. Here are links to the current policy and proposed updated policy. The content of the proposed policy is materially the same, but includes terminology and minor wording updates. If you would like to offer feedback on the proposed policy, please send an email to Director of Federal, State, and Strategic Projects, Geoff Chang at [email protected] by November 9, 2021.
