From the Principal's Desk

Dear Theuerkauf Families,

As you may have heard through Dr. Rudolph’s communication last week or through other media outlets, tragedy and loss has hit our MVWSD community hard with the passing of a Graham student in a bicycle accident. We are grieving this loss alongside the family and friends of this student and his teachers. As a district and as a school, we are regularly reflecting and looking for ways to improve the safety of our students. MVWSD has updated our website with information about safe walking and biking routes to school. (Click Here). The link has the preferred biking routes to avoid major streets, Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety guide, and other tips for getting to school safely. If your child bikes, skateboards, rides a scooter, or walks, please review with them the preferred routes and other safety measures. If your child bikes, skateboards or uses a scooter, please make sure they wear a helmet. If you need a helmet, please reach out to our School Community Engagement Facilitator (SCEF), Lisset Tellez Garduno, and we can assist in getting you access.

Yours in service,

Michelle Williams, Principal

Celebrating COURAGE!

This month, our students and staff have been working to develop, recognize and celebrate acts of COURAGE. Students are learning to recognize that it takes courage to support and stand up for what they believe. They are also learning that it takes courage to take action to solve a problem that they see in the world around them. Importantly, students are also taking courage to be their authentic selves and share their unique talents and attributes with those in the world around them. At lunch this week, our Expect Respect students led the school in an activity in which they wrote and displayed a time that they have shown courage. Thank you to Ms. Gallagher for leading the way on this activity. Go Cheetahs!

Reminder: Please upload your child’s completed vaccine card

When your child's vaccine card has their second shot listed, please upload a copy to Powerschool. Vaccine cards will be referred to in the case of a positive COVID exposure for your student, and MVWSD needs accurate data for decisions about COVID protocols. Click here for a video that shows you how to upload documents: https://vimeo.com/606954357. Thank you in advance for uploading your documents now!

Reminder: Principal’s Virtual Office Hours

This is just a friendly reminder that you are invited to join me each Wednesday for our informal Principal Office Hours (virtual through Zoom) from 4pm - 5:00pm. Feel free to drop in if you have any questions or if you just want to chat. For office hours, there is no formal agenda, it is a time for you to stop in to say hello, and for us to get to know each other better! I look forward to seeing you!

Speaking respectfully about mask choices

As mask mandates change at MVWSD, it is important to respect the decisions of individuals and families as they choose to mask or not mask while outdoors at school (indoor masks are still required). Staff members will support students with respectful conversations on campus. We encourage you to talk with your children about your family’s choices, and about communicating empathy and understanding for others’ choices. For tips on how students can respectfully speak up and speak out, see this helpful infographic. We know our students will be upstanders and take care of each other!
