From the Principal's Desk

Hello, Theuerkauf Families!

It was wonderful to see the sun peak back out this week. Students have enjoyed the warmth and have been SO excited to play outside during PE, recess, and lunch again. We hope that all in our community and extended families have stayed safe and dry.

Please remember that we are here for all of the needs of our students. If you and your child need support with resources like warm coats, shoes, or other items, help is just an email away! You can reach out for support or to donate by emailing our School Community Engagement Facilitator (SCEF), Lisset Tellez, at [email protected]

Living Classroom: Growing and Harvesting Food for Healthy Kids!

We are so grateful for our partnership with Living Classroom! Recently, our students got to reap some of the literal fruits (and veggies!) of their labor. Students harvested and cut what they have been nurturing and growing in the garden all year for some truly delicious salads. They also made their own dressings! Before enjoying their salads, students practiced a bit of math as they added up calories and nutrients. Thank you to our Living Classroom teachers and to our fantastic parent volunteers for making this possible! We are so grateful for our partnership with Living Classroom.

Health and Wellness Parenting Tip: Belly Breathing

Our mood is influenced by physical sensations in our body. When we feel stressed, we tend to take quick and shallow breaths. By taking slow and deep breaths, we can signal our body to relax.

Watch this video to learn more about how belly breathing can help your child (or you) feel more relaxed.

To belly breathe:

  1. Choose a comfortable position, such as sitting on a chair or laying on your back.

  2. Place one hand on your belly.

  3. Take a deep breath in through your nose while you count to four. As you breathe in, your belly should rise.

  4. Hold your breath while you count to five.

  5. Breathe out through your mouth while you count to six. As you breathe out, your belly should flatten.

You may need to repeat these steps for 5-10 minutes before you start to feel relaxed. By practicing these steps, you can learn to relax after stressful situations.
