From the Principal

It has been an exciting week here at our school. Our staff is in full academic mode with student learning at the forefront. It is with great pride and excitement that I share the preliminary scores from the end of year CAASPP assessment that the 3rd- 5th graders took in April-May 2018. (Please note that these are preliminary scores received from the State Department of Education but we don’t expect much fluctuations when we receive the final scores) Our students have made great strides in both English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. School wide, we made 13% growth in ELA and 17% growth in Math. Every student subgroup has made tremendous gains in both subject areas. This is fantastic achievement and we commend the hard work of all involved - students, staff, and parents- in making this happen. Please take a few minutes to appreciate your child for their hard work and encourage them to keep up the good work this year as well. Thank you for your continued support for our school and for working with your child at home. Looking forward to a great school year keeping up with this momentum and building on more hands-on learning for our students through the year.

Project Cornerstone is a program that supports social and emotional learning in our school. Adult volunteers read a specially selected book and lead a related discussion and activity once a month in one of our classrooms. This is a special opportunity for parents to create positive connections with students. Books, training and support are provided. We are looking for readers in both English and Spanish, for all grades. Please contact Teresa Peters ( if you are interested or have questions. You are welcome to come to our first training to learn more - this Thursday, 8:45-9:45am, Room 25.

Visitors and Volunteers

Anyone coming on the school grounds after 8:35 a.m. must check in at the office. You will sign the visitor/volunteer log and get a visitor sticker to wear while on the campus. This is for your child’s safety.  Also, in order to avoid interruptions of messages to the classroom, please send your child with everything they need for the day: homework, lunch, snack.

Hearing and Vision Screening

"Each fall, MVWSD conducts hearing and vision screenings of all students in kindergarten, second-, fifth- and eighth-grade, as California State Law mandates.  These screenings will take place at your child's school site, Theuerkauf Elementary on September 26th, 2018.

Parents will be notified in writing if children fail a screening. Parents who do not want their child screened for either vision and/or hearing should send a letter to their child's school each school year indicating that their child is to be excluded, and vision and/or hearing results will need to be provided from their physician.

If you have any concerns about your child’s vision or hearing please contact your school nurse. Questions about the screenings should be directed to the Health Services office at 650-526-3570 ext. 1050."

  • and monitoring the implementation of the plan and budget.

Our first PTA Association Meeting is coming up next week: Wednesday, September 26 at 6:30pm. Parents should report to the library for food, brief PTA business, and lots of chatting and event planning. Kids should report to the YMCA room for Midweek Movie Night...more on that to come!
