From the Principal's Desk

Hello Theuekrauf Families!

Even though the weather keeps changing on us and the leaves are falling with brilliant colors of orange, red and yellow to decorate our school grounds the academic process here at Theuerkauf is constantly working for student success. Our classrooms are a training ground where students learn how to maximize their potential through critical thinking, problem solving, respectful agreement/disagreement, and exposure to diverse opinions and thoughts. Opportunities like turn and talk - Productive Partner protocol as we call it at our school, along with other group interactions teach our students that active participation is important and their thoughts, opinions are valuable. We want our students to think of themselves as stewards of not just our amazing school but also of our country.

News from the 1st grade classrooms:

Balance of academics and fun is valued at Theuerkauf. Our 1st graders got to visit the beautiful 49ers stadium this week and may I say, they had tons of fun! Pictures say it all…

An African proverb goes, “It takes a village to raise a child.”  Whether you can give an hour of time once a week or once a month, we need you here.  If it works to participate as a classroom volunteer, an event volunteer, a PTA member, attending school events, and meetings, etc. we will make sure that your time is well spent. We just need you to get involved at school. We love our parents at school and so do our students - they love to see their parents involved at school. On that note, we have our Annual Walk-a-Thon Fundraiser coming up on Friday, November 15. Your child will be participating and walking along with their classmates. It would be great for you to come cheer them on, help with food donations, or help man some stations. We need parent volunteers for BBQing hot dogs, marking lap-cards, set-up, etc. Please see the PTA section below for the sign-up sheet, donations and details on grade level times on the attached flyer.

Please join me in welcoming our new School Community Engagement Facilitator - Mrs. Lisset Tellez will be joining the team effective Monday, 11/4/19. Mrs. Tellez was born in México and moved to California when she was eleven years old.

She understands the struggles that many of our English Language Learners face and is currently enrolled at East Bay State University working on her Sociology degree. (What a great way to exemplify life long learning!). Lisset has been with our district for the past 13 years and is familiar with the services that are provided within the school and the community. She loves working with the Mountain View community because of the diversity of families and cultural backgrounds. In the words of Lisset, "As the School Community Engagement Facilitator, I am here to partner up with parents, students, staff and community for the academic success of students." Please drop by to say hello to her as she settles into her office in Room 21.  We are excited to have Mrs. Tellez on our school team!

Our renovated (and expanded) Multi-Use Room/New Cafeteria is taking shape quickly and this week we have fire and facility inspections going on. Looks like we may even have it handed over by the contractors over the next couple weeks or so. Please keep an eye out for our cafeteria inauguration ceremony details coming soon. So exciting!

Forever grateful for our wonderful school, our students, our staff, teachers, and for our fantastic parent community. Together we make our school stronger and more cohesive. Thank you for being a valuable part of our school.

Upward  and Beyond!

Sincerely,

Ms. Swati Dagar

Principal

Lost and Found

Our lost and found has been overflowing and we are ready to take it for donations. Last call to check the Lost and Found bin before we take it out this Friday.

When students miss too much school— regardless of the reason – it can cause them to fall behind academically.  Your child is less likely to succeed if he or she is chronically absent. Children chronically absent in kindergarten and 1st grade are much less likely to read at grade level by the end of 3rd grade. By 6th grade, chronic absence is a proven early warning sign for students at risk for dropping out of school.  For more information, click here.

Congratulations to all our 3rd Graders for winning Coin Wars! They raised the most coins school wide and have earned a class/grade level party. Well done!!

Our Annual Walk-a-Thon is right around the corner—-less than 7 school days away - Friday, November 15 is WALK-A-THON day!!!

Please sign up online or out front after school by the PTA office to help out on the day of the event or to donate items needed!

Walk-a-Thon Sign Up Sheet is here (click on this active link)
