 Principal's Message

Hello Cheetah Community!

We have some exciting updates this week!

English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC)

We had our first ELAC meeting on Monday. ELAC participants were able to learn about our data from last year and help give input on how to help support English Language learners this year. Parents shared great advice and perspectives. We also took a quick moment to celebrate the 8 students that reclassified this past week! Thank you to all who were in attendance. Listed below are our ELAC board members. Please feel free to reach out to them or Ms. Lissett with any questions! One thing we are looking forward to planning in the near future is a Potluck Celebration for Hispanic Heritage Month! Please be on the lookout for an event for all families!

ELAC Members:

President/DELAC Representative: Karla Ardon

School Site Council (SSC) Ballot

Please vote for our new School Site Council Nominees! The primary purpose of a school site council is to partner with the principal in the annual process of developing the School Plan for Student Achievement (or SPSA or "site plan." for short). We are looking forward to getting to work right away. Our first meeting will be on Monday, September 25th from 4-5pm. All are welcome to attend.

International Dot Day!

This week we are celebrating International Dot Day! International Dot Day is a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration.

The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe.

To celebrate we have the following spirit days taking place:

Here is my favorite part mentioned about dot day. “A reminder to think of each day as a NEW day… a blank page… a chance to make it the best day yet. A chance to splash, shine, share, and inspire.”

So how will you choose to fill up your new blank page today, tomorrow and so on? Try having this as a discussion question with your family!

Warm Regards,

Principal, Danielle Lyons

Attendance Awareness Month: What’s an Excused vs. Not Excused absence?

Illness, doctor’s appointments, bereavement, and certain religious exercises are excused absences. Please see MVWSD board policy for the full list. All other reasons are not considered excused.

Better Together: September

This month, #BetterTogether explores identity and celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month, which are both essential components of fostering inclusive and enriching schools in MVWSD. Recognizing and respecting the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and identities of students not only promotes a sense of belonging and allyship but also encourages a more comprehensive and meaningful learning experience for all. Hispanic Heritage Month, in particular, provides an opportunity to appreciate the rich tapestry of Hispanic/Latino cultures, their contributions to society, and the stories of Hispanic/Latino students within our own community. Celebrate with us this month! We are #BetterTogetherMVWSD. For more information about Better Together, visit mvwsd.org/BetterTogetherMVWSD.

Volunteer badges: New, easy-to-follow chart

If you think that you will be volunteering on campus more than 3 times this school year for more than 10 min each visit, or plan to be an overnight trip chaperone, now is the time to apply for your volunteer badge.  Please check the easy-to-follow chart here to help you get started. There are more steps to complete the first time you apply. After that, renewals are easier. Thank you for helping to protect our students' safety and to ensure MVWSD complies with state law. We are grateful for parents willing to help us at school!

Volunteer with MVEF!
MVEF needs 1-3 additional volunteers at each school in MVWSD. MVEF school representatives help the families at their school understand what MVEF is and why it exists so that they are inspired to donate and spread the word about the impact of MVEF funding. MVEF also needs volunteers to help with planning our annual Gala and other community events. To learn more, visit: https://www.mvef.org/volunteer
