 Principal's Message

Dear Cheetah Community,

Thank you to all of the parents, families, and community members for putting on a fantastic walkathon last week! Thank you for participating and taking time to get your steps in, eat some great food, and raise money for our wonderful school! I had a blast racing students at the “cheetah run” area, walking with families and eating some delicious pupusas!

Our next big community event will be Fearkauf Trunk or Treat on Monday, October 30th from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. This is an event where you can choose to decorate the trunk of your car with decorations and pass out candy or come with your family and walk around the decorated cars to trick or treat. Please contact Natalie Gallagher if you are interested in decorating your car or donating candy!  Her email is: [email protected]

Costume Parade! 10/31 8:15-8:30am

On the following morning, Tuesday, October 31st from 8:15-8:30am we will have a school wide costume parade on the blacktop. We will start to make a big circle at 8:10 around the blacktop and have each grade level walk around at one time if they choose to show off their costume. We will cheer and clap. If you prefer your child is not a part of this costume parade, please let their teacher know and we will have a separate fall activity for them during that 15 minutes!

PRINCIPAL COSTUME CONTEST!!

I, Principal Lyons, am in need of a costume!

I don’t have a costume yet for October 31st. I am looking for our young authors to write me a short letter about what I should dress up as on October 31st. Who can be the most convincing with their letter? Feel free to draw a picture of the costume as well!

For younger grades some sentence starters be:

Dear Principal Lyons,

I think you should dress up as _________ because ________________________.

(Try adding another sentence to make sure this is very convincing!)

For older grades try writing a whole paragraph or two! Why should I dress up in that costume? Who can make the most convincing argument? The winner will be announced on October 31st at the costume parade.

Letter Due Date: End of school on Tuesday, October 24th.

Earthquake Drill

October is Safety Month in MVWSD. Don’t forget that the districtwide earthquake drill is tomorrow. We have reviewed our procedures, and we are ready to practice. Parents, since students will be outside for approximately one hour, please plan to apply sunscreen to your child in the morning and have them bring a hat if they’re sun-sensitive.

Please reassure your child that drills are our way of practicing for an emergency.  These things may never happen, but if they do, we’re better protected and are more able to help ourselves and others. .

Principal/PTA Coffee - Friday

I look forward to seeing you all outside the gate near the flagpole on Friday! 8-8:15 will be a connection time with other parents. After the final bell we will start our meeting!

Warm Regards,

Principal Danielle Lyons

Items Drop-Offs

Snack/Lunch, music instrument, water bottle, Chromebook, and any other drop-offs

Please ensure your child has everything they need with them for school when you drop off in the morning. We are unable to assist and guarantee personal item distribution each day.  I suggest a morning check-list to ensure you have all items. This can also help students build independence as they get older.

Drafts available: Single Plans for Student Achievement

Each year, our schools create Single Plans for Student Achievement (SPSAs or “site plans”) that guide the work for the coming year. These plans help us prioritize programs and strategies that will best serve our students. In the fall, elected parent representatives from School Site Councils and English Language Advisory Committees work with principals and school staff members to create a draft that is reviewed and approved by the MVWSD Board of Trustees.  Parents and staff members may give feedback through Oct. 26 to their principal and elected parent representatives to SSC and ELAC. You may review the draft plans here.

Better Together: October

Cultural appreciation is an acknowledgment and celebration of the rich and diverse tapestry of human heritage that exists around the world. Indigenous Peoples' Month, observed in various regions, highlights the unique cultures, traditions, and contributions of indigenous communities. It serves as an opportunity for all of us to learn, respect, and honor the invaluable knowledge, customs, and wisdom that indigenous peoples have preserved for generations. We are #BetterTogetherMVWSD. For more information about Better Together, visit mvwsd.org/BetterTogetherMVWSD.

MVEF Community Survey

MVEF is seeking input from the community via the annual online survey, which will be open throughout October: http://bit.ly/MVEF-Survey

If donations to MVEF approach the annual goal of $1.2MM by December 31, 2023, MVEF may be able to add additional programs in 2024.

MVEF has raised just shy of $400,000 -- donate today if you haven't already: https://www.mvef.org/donate. THANK YOU MVEF donors and volunteers!

 https://docs.google.com/document/d/1q7EG2_ZMpexwx7b1CH-_TM3Hl4blsdqOU3fC_niTe54/edit

The cost is normally $10 per adult (and we send a big chunk of this to the overseeing PTA council)  but if this is a financial burden, please just write "scholarship" next to the total line of the form and we'll cover the fee from our PTA budget!  We do not want anyone to be excluded for financial reasons!  Every family at Theuerkauf is strongly encouraged to join the PTA -- we want YOU!

We are planning a family photoshoot fundraiser. For that, we need volunteer photographers who would be willing to take family photos.  (You don't have to be a professional -- just someone with a camera and who is willing to take photos).

We will charge each family a donation of $50 for this service and 100% of proceeds will go to the Theuerkauf Field Trip Fund.

The time commitment is 3 hours on Sunday Nov 5th from 1pm to 4pm.

 The volunteer work includes:

  • Directing the families for the shoot

  • Taking their picture

  • Downloading the images onto a thumb drive / flash drive and handing it over the the families

If you are interested in this opportunity, please get in touch with the Smita the Amazing ( [email protected] )  -- our field trip fundraiser mastermind!
