 Principal's Message

Happy Holidays and New Year!

I hope you have a wonderful break! I love taking this time to re-ground myself and reflect on all the positives and learning lessons of the year. One thing that brings me so much joy are our community events and there are more to come in 2024! Here are some special events you won’t want to miss out on in the new year!

  1. Multicultural Potluck - January 16th! Bring a dish that is special to your family! If you or your child would like to share why it is special, you will have the opportunity to do so that night! I can’t wait to hear about special family traditions or the meaning behind the dish you bring!

  2. Reading Sleepover Party! - January 24th! As part of my 100 Day Plan we are working on creating an ecosystem of reading! Drop your child off in the MUR for some reading fun while parents head to the Library to learn skills and strategies to support literacy at home. For the last 15 minutes you will join your child back in the MUR and have some special reading time together. Bring a blanket, towel, or pillow for your child to set up in the MUR and wear your PJ’s! We will have books at school, but if your child is really excited to share a special book with a friend they are more than welcome to bring it for the night. There will be a guest reader, bookmark making, book giveaways, and a snack for your child to enjoy. You do not want to miss this celebration!

    1. TK-2nd grade - 5-6pm

    2. 3rd-5th grade - 6-7pm

Get a glimpse Theuerkauf of the dynamic learning that happens at our school! Many thanks to the staff, students, families, and entire community that makes our school such a wonderful learning community. Please share this video and the registration link(https://www.mvwsd.org/registerwith potential new parents. We'd love to share what makes our school community special.

Library books

We are seeing an increase in damaged books in the library--books are being written in, covers are falling off, and books are being handed in soaking wet. Please remind your Cheetah readers to be extra careful with their library books so that other students can check out the books for years to come. Please remind your students to bring their library books to school every day so that the books can be returned on time. Library books are due every week and must be seen by Mrs. Baikie to renew any unfinished books. Taking care of our books means new books can be purchased for the library. This year, students are checking out more books and reading more than last year--it's inspiring to see our Cheetah readers using the library and improving their reading skills. If you have students with lost or damaged books, please contact Mrs. Baikie or your classroom teacher to find out how to remedy the issue.

See you next year and don’t forget to mark your calendars!

Warm Regards,

Principal Danielle Lyons

In January, the Mountain View Whisman School District will be opening student enrollment for next fall starting Jan. 22 through Feb. 9. Parents of new and currently enrolled students are asked to register their students for next fall during this period.

To help new families learn more about school options for elementary school students, virtual school information nights will be held on Jan. 10 (neighborhood schools) and Jan. 11 (choice schools). The transitional kindergarten meeting is on Jan. 18.  In-person school exploration events for Kindergartners incoming to all school sites are on Jan. 17  at Theuerkauf Elementary and on Jan. 24 at Mariano Castro Elementary.  Click here for all of the meeting details: http://mvw.sd/meetings. Attendance

Please call the 24hour automated Attendance Line at 650-903-6925, X4680 or email  [email protected]  to report an absence or late arrival.  Provide the following information: date of absence, student’s name, grade and room number, reason for absence, name and relationship of the person reporting the absence. After reporting a COVID positive absence on the attendance line or by email click here to fill out the COVID reporting form. When you have a doctor or dentist appointment, please bring your note so the tardiness or absent will be excused. If we do not hear from you within 72 hours, the absence will be marked as unexcused. Please let us know how we can support your student. Thank you

Gate Locking Communication

For student and staff safety, it's very important for our school to limit points of entry during school hours. As you know, we have been working on enabling the locks on our field gates during the school day. Beginning Nov. 27, the field gates will be locked from the outside shortly after the last morning bell rings. It is very important that we eliminate tardiness so students get the education they deserve right from the first bell. However, if they are tardy, please have them go in through the front office and pick up a tardy slip from Ms. Gaby or Ms. Sherri. If there is anything we can do to support on time arrival for school. Please reach out. Parents will be able access school field gates for student pick up when the dismissal bell rings. The public will continue to have access to school fields on weekends and on weekday evenings after 4 p.m. at elementary schools and after 5 p.m. at middle schools.  If the gates malfunction after hours, you can call (650) 526-3248 x1004. Thank you for supporting our safety procedures.
